Traditionally made from hemp, modern canvas is usually linen or cotton, and is a heavyweight, tough fabric used for a variety of purposes, particularly in the camping world.
Although modern tents can be made from a variety of fabrics, canvas is still popular, as it is hardwearing. It is a natural product, and offers good resistance to tears and other damage; and it's tight weave makes is a good option for a watertight tent. It also insulates well, offering a cool interior on hot days and protection from the cold.
Canvas repairs easily - if you do somehow find your canvas tent is damaged, it is worth speaking to a specialist to ensure a good quality repair which will extend the life of your tent or awning considerably.
